City of Lloydminster and County of Vermilion River Move Forward with Joint Regional Growth Study
July 26, 2018
Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster and the County of Vermilion River are proceeding with the completion of the Joint Regional Growth Study. Once completed, the study will assist both municipalities in developing directions and strategies for effective and mutually-beneficial growth.
On June 25, 2018 the Inter-municipal Annexation Negotiation Committee (IANC) met to discuss the possibility of restarting the Joint Growth Study process. The meeting gave the City and the County an opportunity to discuss a go-forward strategy.
“The meeting gave the City and the County an opportunity to discuss a go-forward strategy and the two municipal partners agreed that we have shared goals and interests, including how to collaboratively attract economic opportunities to the region,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers.
The Joint Regional Growth Study will assist both municipalities in their short and long range future planning for the growth of the region, as well as be a key factor for the annexation process.
“Economic growth within the region encourages innovation and generates sustainability - this growth will come about with the continued collaborative efforts between the City and the County,” said Reeve, Dale Swyripa.
The annexation negotiation process began in 2014 with both municipal partners entering into the Joint Growth Study. The City of Lloydminster opted to formally withdraw from participating in the study at the November 14, 2017 Regular Council Meeting.
