The Great Downtown Fire
August 19, 1929 saw a major fire burn for over 20 hours destroying 53 downtown buildings. Referred to as the $1 million fire, 1929 was an unlucky year for Lloydminster, which in the months previous had seen two separate fires consume the Lloydminster Milling Company flour mill and an entire city block.
