Consultation has concluded

Each year, the City of Lloydminster develops a budget that accounts for anticipated expenses and revenues and allocates funds to meet the needs of the municipality. Once approved by Lloydminster City Council, Administration uses the budget as a benchmark to control the fiscal operations of the municipality.

Last year's Your City, Your Dollar Budget Engagement Campaign allowed Council and Administration to better understand how you would allocated funds. This year's campaign will once again ask residents to provide feedback on their community priorities and desired service levels.

What role do my taxes play in the budget process?

Taxes are used as as a cost-recovery system. This meaning residents pay their annual taxes based on the assessed values of their homes and businesses to help off-set the cost of infrastructure such as sewer and water systems, recreation facilities as well as utilities and municipal programs. In 2019 your taxes were allocated as pictured in graphic.

    Hello, thank you for your question. The new Mechanical Wastewater Treatment Plant is estimated at costing $81.5 M. The City of Lloydminster has received funding from the federal government and both provincial governments. However, we are responsible for contributing $32.5 M to the total project.  You can view more information on the funding on the July 3, Council Highlights (www.lloydminster.ca/en/news/special-council-meeting-highlights-07-03-2019.aspx).

    The MTR charge on your utility bill is collected to help cover the cost of current and future infrastructure such as water and sewer line replacements and water/wastewater facility upgrades.

    To ensure that the data is presented as a whole and not subjected to pending or uncompleted projects we have only included the 2019 budgeted figures within the campaign.

    Thank you for your question.

    The City of Lloydminster is committed to the health and safety of its employees. In efforts to achieve this there is a wellness room for City employees within the Operations Centre.

    The City of Lloydminster also provides cost-effective exercise options for lower-income families through the Recreation Access Program, access to the Agland Walking Track for senior citizens and discount rates for students and children. We also support families through the Servus Family Free Skate program which allows free staking at specific locations.

    Thank you for your question. Currently, the City of Lloydminster financially supports the Senior Taxi Program and the Border City Connects shuttle service, which support quality of life for those with limited mobility or access to personal transportation.

    While we acknowledge there are people in our community who would benefit from enhanced public transit, more research is needed to determine how we might develop a cost-effective transit model that would be well utilized, without being cost prohibitive.

    Public transit continues to be a discussion point for our City Council and Administration and we would appreciate you allowing us to keep your contact information for future community-engagement on this important issue.
