With the Lloydminster Cemetery nearing capacity, the City of Lloydminster has initiated the official Cemetery Master Plan. This plan will help guide the future expansion and development of the burial site into an improved parkland cemetery.
Where is the Lloydminster Cemetery?
Located north of the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre, the Lloydminster Cemetery is surrounded by a series of naturally beautiful amenities such as farmland, mature vegetation and manicured and unmanicured greenspace. The current Lloydminster Cemetery features a variety of burial areas/methods including a scattering garden. columbaria and areas for cremated and casket burials. This site has served the community for generations and will continue to act as the sole burial location for the Lloydminster and area families for the next 100+ years.
Plan Goals
Through the Lloydminster Cemetery Master Plan, we aim to expand the park over a series of decades. The plan design aims to:
Accommodate a wide range of interment and memorialization options;
Create a sustainable and flexible phased plan;
Buffer the cemetery from the impacts of future surrounding development;
Improve drainage as part of an area-wide storm and groundwater mitigation strategy;
Enable programs and events to take places such as historic tours, Mothers Day and a Festival of Lights;
Encourage passive recreation such as walking, wildlife watching and cross-country skiing;
Improve the services of families through the provision of things such as gathering spaces and winter warming shelters, and
Enhance wayfinding, grave finding, and historic interpretation information.

Between November 12 and 26, 2020 the City of Lloydminster held an online survey to determine the appetite for recreational activities and satisfaction for the development concepts. Learn more about the feedback through the What We Heard Report in the project documents (right-hand column).
