The City of Lloydminster has initiated a study to update and develop the Dangerous Good Routes (DGR) and Truck Routes within the municipal boundaries. The purpose of this study is to provide safe and efficient options for the travel and transportation within the area.
What is a dangerous good?
Dangerous goods are products which host a specific risk or safety concern within their nature. Dangerous goods may be gases, liquids or solids which could be explosive, flammable, combustible, oxidizing, poisonous, nuclear or corrosive.
When transporting, these materials must be properly identified with a placard on this shipping container and/or mode of transportation.
Current Routes
Currently the transportation of dangerous good are permitted on Highway 16 ( Ray Nelson Drive/ 44 Street) and Highway 17 (50 Avenue) and larger trucks are permitted on various routes within City limits.
In 2015, the Transportation Master Plan identified a need to update the Dangerous Good Routes and Truck Routes to ensure safety for all roadway users.
This project will help identify the roadway uses of current commercial stakeholders and residents alike to ensure restricted items are handled with caution.
Public Engagement
Throughout this project both stakeholder meeting and public opportunities will be held on two separate occasions. Within the first phase of engagement, specific commercial stakeholders were invited to attend a meeting on October 17, 2019. The area residents and additional stakeholders were invited to the Open House on October 17, 2019. View these main public feedback themes through the What We Heard Report.
Furthermore, stakeholders were invited to a second set of meetings on December 3 where they had the opportunity to review the draft concepts. Later that night, residents were able to review the content at the multi-topic Open House. Review the draft concepts online here, or view Official What We Heard Report for more information on the feedback received.

Hello,
The Dangerous Goods and Truck Routes project is currently undergoing administrative review with consideration to the public feedback we collected.
Once the draft plan has been established it will be taken to the City Council for a decision. The date of this Council Meeting will be added to the project website when confirmed.

Hello,
Thank
you for your question.
Currently
the City of Lloydminster has no timeline available for the construction of the
Highway 16 bypass. However, the Dangerous Goods Route (DGR) and Truck Route Establishment
Project will form a framework for route evaluation going forward. This will
allow the City of regularly re-evaluate the traffic systems for potential additions
to the DGR and Truck Routes as new infrastructure is constructed within the
municipal limits.
Right
now, City and contracted organization are seeking your feedback through the
online survey and the Open House on October 17 to evaluate the existing network
with consideration to safety, connectivity, community impact and much more.
