New Event Facility
The City of Lloydminster is preparing to design and build a modern new event facility. The City expects to break ground on the project in early 2023, with a grand opening in 2025. Visit lloydminsterplace.ca to learn more.
The City of Lloydminster is working to ensure your wants and wishes are considered in the construction of our new event facility! The Your Place, Your Experience campaign launched on February 14, 2022, following the Community Engagement Unveiling Event. This event was held to officially launch the site plan, sponsorship opportunities, engagement campaign and Lloydminster Place brand. Primary stakeholders were invited to participate as speakers and honoured guests. You can view the recording of the unveiling event on the City of Lloydminster's Facebook Page.
Engagement
The City first consulted with the public to ensure a full understanding of the new event facility project and gave the community a chance to share their voice. An online survey was available from February 14 to March 5, 2022, in order to collect initial input regarding future Lloydminster Place experiences, amenities, accessibility, events and uses. The City also set up information kiosks around Lloydminster for in-person engagement opportunities. The findings of the survey can be found in the What We Heard Report.
Feedback was sought once again from both residents of Lloydminster and the surrounding areas. The data collected will guide City Administration's future decisions regarding the building and site development of Lloydminster Place. The second 'Your Place, Your Experience' survey ran from May 13 to May 31, 2022. You can view the What We Heard Report for the findings.
Project Updates
The City of Lloydminster is committed to educating residents along every step of the Lloydminster Place project. For the most recent information visit lloydminsterplace.ca.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your message. The benchmark seating capacity for a WHL-sized arena is approximately 4,000-4,500 seats; a capacity beyond the scope and budget of this project. Comparing ourselves to other communities with WHL teams, Lloydminster's population makes it a fringe market for attracting and sustaining a successful franchise. The City of Lloydminster is not aware of any private proponents exploring ownership of a WHL franchise for Lloydminster.
Share Will the new events centre include a free walking track around one of the rinks like there is in both Cold Lake and Wainwright? I love it when my kids play at their rinks because it allows me to get up and get some exercise for free between periods. It's also great for moms with babies in strollers or toddlers who want to watch the game or practice but need to keep little ones moving. on FacebookShare Will the new events centre include a free walking track around one of the rinks like there is in both Cold Lake and Wainwright? Thank you for your question. We do not anticipate a walking track to be included in the new building, however, opportunities to add small and casual recreation spaces within Lloydminster Place are still being explored. To make sure your wishes are considered, please complete the Your Place, Your Experience Survey before May 31. You can also visit www.lloydminsterplace.ca for project updates.
Share Why are we going ahead with this project when we have lost 30 million of funding. That extra cost will be put on our taxes. We also have the Servus center that we have set up for 2 extra arenas that we have already paid for. Why the need to spend money with no thought for what it will do to taxes. on FacebookShare Why are we going ahead with this project when we have lost 30 million of funding. Thank you for your inquiry.
The City remains optimistic that federal and provincial grants will cover a significant portion of the costs to design and build the new event facility. Portions of the cost not covered by grant dollars will come from the City’s capital budget, as well as regional partnerships, sponsorships, donations, and additional grants. The City has set up fundraising and sponsorship committees to help raise funds and minimize the tax impact.
An expansion to Servus Sports Centre was considered during the site-selection phase; however, traffic access and egress for a 2,500-seat event facility posed significant challenges within that site. Additionally, the Servus Sports Centre was not originally designed for additional indoor ice surfaces, as the field house surfaces are not fitted with chilled concrete slabs.
Thank you for your contribution!
